The two-year ACGME-accredited program at Baylor College of Medicine provides comprehensive training to become a leader in clinical informatics as well as laboratory informatics and informatics research and education. Fellows gain training and experience in fundamental concepts, technology, application, management and other areas related to clinical informatics. A program goal is to develop professionals who can apply the principles and knowledge of clinical informatics to advance healthcare at both the individual and population levels, to further clinical informatics education and to make important contributions to clinical informatics research. Fellowship rotations provide experience and project opportunities in electronic records, laboratory information systems, data analytics, clinical decision support, database architecture, quality improvement, utilization tracking and stewardship, interoperability, and other related areas. Fellows have opportunities to participate in clinical, operational and research conferences, informatics journal clubs, clinical informatics grand rounds and in digital pathology and telepathology initiatives. The fellowship leads to eligibility for board certification in Clinical Informatics.
FELLOW RESPONSIBILITIES
• Active participation in rotations, projects, education, and research.
• Devote up to 20 percent time working in the fellow’s primary clinical specialty.
• Completion of Epic physician builder courses I and II and AMIA 10x10 Introduction to Biomedical & Health Informatics course.
• Completion of a Capstone Project over the two year fellowship.
• Service to local as well as national infor¬matics communities.
FELLOW CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
• Ideally, board certified or eligible in anatomic and/or clinical pathology. The program is open to consider graduates of any specialty.
• Must have, or be eligible for Texas medical licensure.
• Demonstrated strong interest and aptitude in clinical informatics.
• Epic EHR experience desired but not essential
